Minor Productions Live Audio Engineering Basics Course is designed to prepare aspiring sound engineers with the skills and knowledge required to operate a professional sound system for a live band in a small to medium size venue. Interactive classroom discussion with hands-on exercises will result in a basic mastery of the equipment and technology utilized in mixing live sound.

CLASS SUMMARY:
Live audio engineering basics for beginners, venue managers, event producers, musicians, instructors, worship producers, and anyone seeking tips from experienced live audio professionals in a highly interactive environment.
You will be able to set up and operate a basic live sound system after the first class. After the full 4 weeks, many students should be ready for entry level tech jobs and internships.

SCHEDULE:
Week 1: Basic PA set up, cables, system parts, sound waves, basic physics
Week 2: Mixer layout, signal path, gain structure, intro to mixing
Week 3: Mixing, Processing, EQ, Monitor mixing, stage set up
Week 4: System design & and repair, acoustics, career skills, Hands on live act mixing.
OPTIONAL 5th class or make up class $50: One on One training session at a live show.

INSTRUCTOR:
Paul Minor is a 40 year veteran of the Austin music scene, Austin Music Awards Producer, twice winner of Best Sound Engineer, and a graduate of St. Edward's University’s Masters in Human Services program. He has toured with major artists including Fastball, Joe Ely, and the Texas Tornados, and has installed, maintained and operated sound systems in numerous venues throughout Texas including White Horse, Hole in the Wall, North Door, Stay Gold, Lowbrow El Paso, and Padre’s Marfa. A member of the Austin Music Awards Hall of Fame since 2002, Paul has been production manager, booking consultant and head engineer at the Austin Beer Garden Brewery since 2013.
